Work Hard.  Play Harder.

Downing Orchestra

The Ministry of Music

7th and 8th grade students who want to take a leadership position in the orchestra can become an officer.  Officers help plan parties, make signs for concerts, and come up with games and team building exercises for the orchestra.

The Bow Brothers

Our Big/Little Brother program.  6th Grade boys are paired up with an older boy who can show them the ropes at Downing.  The boys are paired up based on interests at the beginning of the year.  The boys get together for parties several times throughout the year.  Field trips include a hockey game and paintball!

The Sisterhood of the Strings

Our Big/Little Sister program.  6th Grade girls are paired up with an older girl who can show them the ropes at Downing.  The girls are paired up based on interests at the beginning of the year.  Throughout the year, girls write notes to each other, give each other small gifts, and get together for parties several times throughout the year. Field trips include a trip to the mall for holiday shopping!

Practice Partners

Our peer tutoring program.  6th graders are paired with an older student who will meet with them for 30 minutes once a week.  6th graders can receive extra help with their class music, and 7th and 8th graders are able to earn community service hours, as well as a little teaching experience!
